SEQ Park and Ride Strategy

Until recently the implementation of new Park and Ride sites and upgrades to existing sites have been relatively arbitrarily selected. As part of Translink's Network Strategy development, Bitzios Consulting was engaged to provide a Park and Ride Strategy for South East Queensland (SEQ). During this study we reviewed alternative site evaluation and selection methodologies and devised a new methodology which was suited to SEQ conditions. This mult-criteria evaluation process considered policy objectives for public transport along with the specific benefits and constraints associated with individual sites. The evaluation methodology was applied to a core list of sites created for SEQ and used to identify park and ride shortfalls. The study then prioritorised a short list of sites for TransLink to undertake futher, more detailed business cases on.

STRATEGIC TRANSPORT MODELLING

2018 Commonwealth Games Modelling

The 2018 Commonwealth Games (the Games) will introduce a range of transport demands into the Gold Coast and Brisbane Transport networks that will be significantly different to transport demands faced in the past. Games-specific transport demands and the inevitable changes to background traffic demand during the games period will introduce a range of travel patterns (origins, destinations, times of day and mode choice) that will vary significantly from typical weekday travel patterns. Bitzios Consulting worked with AECOM to develop the 2018 Commonwealth Games (CWG) model including responsibility for the spectator and workforce modules and creation of the 2018 Gold Coast School Holiday Base Model.

Sunshine Coast VISUM Model Enhancements

Bitzios Consulting assisted the Department of Transport and Main Roads to implement a number of improvements to the VISUM and VISSIM models for the Sunshine Coast.

Cairns Strategic Transport Model Review and Update

Bitzios Consulting reviewed the 2006 CSTM (in EMME) and developed a program of work to update the mode to a 2011 base. This work updated the zoning system and network and re-validated the model to more recent count data.

Gold Coast Strategic Transport Model Improvements Project

Prior to the complete re-calibration and re-validation of the 2011 Base Model, Bitzios Consulting was commissioned by Gold Coast City Council to implement a suite of improvements to the GCSTM-MM to set it up ready for the major re-calibration. Some of these improvements include disaggregating and improving the visitor models, creating an airport special generator model, updating walk/cycle and time period splits, disaggregating the zoning system and network in North Gold Coast, implementing improved Park and Ride procedures and implementing improved linkages to the SEQSTM-MM

Meadowbank Mesoscopic Model

Bitzios Consulting was commissioned by the City of Ryde to prepare a traffic model of the Meadowbank Employment Area (MEA) and conduct a traffic study to identify what traffic works would be required under two development scenarios to the year 2031. A traffic model was developed for the broader Meadowbank area using the SATURN mesoscopic modelling package, and the model was then used to test various development and traffic treatment scenarios. The option testing led to the definition of five key objectives, including the limitation of through traffic intrusion, encouraging pedestrian movements to public transport terminals and the river foreshore, and addressing existing traffic and pedestrian safety issues. These key objectives were then used to develop a draft preferred network and traffic management measures.
